Apple Reportedly Planning Stunning iPhone Redesign for 2027 Anniversary

Apple is gearing up for something major in 2027. According to a new report from ETNews, the company is planning a dramatic redesign of the iPhone to celebrate its 20th anniversary. And if the rumors are true, it could be Apple’s most futuristic iPhone yet.
A Truly Bezel-Less Display
One of the most exciting features reportedly in development is a four-sided curved display. Unlike current models that only curve at the corners or edges, this design would wrap around all sides—top, bottom, left, and right—creating a true all-screen front.
To make this bezel-free dream a reality, Apple is also expected to introduce under-display camera and sensor technology, which would eliminate the need for any cutouts or notches. It’s a feature that’s been in development for years, and 2027 could be the moment it finally goes mainstream.
Power Efficiency Gets a Boost
Behind the scenes, Apple is also planning a major shift in its display hardware. The company is expected to move from a 28nm planar process to a more efficient 16nm FinFET process for its display driver IC (DDI). This change could significantly lower power consumption—especially important with more AI-powered features being used on-device.
By reducing power draw, Apple opens the door for more ambitious display designs without hurting battery life. This could be key to pulling off the seamless, edge-wrapping display users have been waiting for.
A New Battery Breakthrough?
Battery life could also get a serious upgrade. Apple is said to be exploring a 100% silicon anode battery, replacing the traditional graphite material. Silicon batteries are known to offer higher energy density, which means longer usage time without increasing battery size. If successful, this could be one of the biggest improvements to iPhone battery performance in years.
OLED Suppliers Already in the Loop
Apple is expected to begin discussions soon with its key OLED suppliers—Samsung Display and LG Display—to figure out how to bring these display innovations to life. Getting the supply chain aligned early will be crucial if Apple plans to launch this redesigned iPhone on time in 2027.
A Nod to the iPhone X Strategy
This move feels a lot like what Apple did back in 2017 with the iPhone X. That 10th-anniversary model introduced Face ID, OLED displays, and the removal of the home button—setting the stage for the next era of the iPhone.
Now, Apple seems ready to do it again, but even bolder. According to sources in the report, Apple is looking to "take bolder steps" with the 20th-anniversary edition, and possibly redefine what the iPhone looks and feels like for the next decade.
Looking Ahead
If everything comes together, the 2027 iPhone could represent the beginning of a new iPhone renaissance—something radically different, yet unmistakably Apple. It’s still early, but one thing is clear: Apple is aiming big for its next milestone moment.
