Big MacBook Pro Redesign With OLED and M6 Chip Coming in 2026–2027, M5 Update Beforehand

A major MacBook Pro refresh isn’t coming until late 2026 or early 2027, but when it does, it’s expected to be a significant overhaul — complete with an OLED display and Apple’s upcoming M6 chip, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Why the Wait?
Gurman says the exceptional performance of Apple Silicon has actually slowed the upgrade cycle. Many users — himself included — are still on M1-series Macs, finding little reason to jump to M2, M3, or even M4. Unlike the Intel days, when performance lagged within a couple of years, Apple’s chips remain strong for much longer.
What’s Coming First
Before that big redesign, Apple is reportedly preparing an M5-powered MacBook Pro for early 2026. This will be a spec bump only, sticking with the 2021 chassis design.
This aligns with earlier leaks and Apple’s product roadmap showing:
-
M5 MacBook Pro → early 2026
-
M6 MacBook Pro with OLED → late 2026 or early 2027
