Facebook Rolls Out Passkey Support on iOS and Android: Say Goodbye to Passwords
Share
Facebook is finally catching up with modern security standards—passkeys are now rolling out for both iOS and Android users. This new feature allows you to log in using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN, offering a more secure and streamlined way to access your account without traditional passwords.
What Are Passkeys?
Passkeys are a passwordless login method developed by the FIDO Alliance and supported by major tech companies like Apple and Google. Instead of relying on a password, your device stores a unique digital credential that verifies your identity using built-in biometrics or your PIN.
Key benefits:
-
Phishing-resistant
-
No passwords to remember or steal
-
Biometric data stays private—never leaves your device or gets shared with Meta
How to Set It Up
You can create a passkey in two ways:
-
Go to Settings > Accounts Center in the Facebook app
-
Or simply follow the prompt the next time you log in on mobile
Once set, you’ll be able to unlock your account with just your fingerprint, face scan, or PIN.
What Else Will Use Passkeys?
Meta is planning to expand passkey usage across its ecosystem:
-
Messenger: Same passkey for Facebook will work on Messenger (coming soon)
-
Meta Pay: Passkeys will help autofill payment info securely
-
Encrypted backups: Will eventually protect Messenger chat backups
What About Desktop Logins?
For now, passkey support is limited to mobile devices. You can still log into Facebook on a desktop using your regular password, but future updates may bring passkey syncing across devices (as Apple and Google already support).

Bottom Line
With passkey support, Facebook is taking a big step forward in both security and convenience. If you're using Facebook on your phone, this is the fastest and safest way to log in—no password needed.
